After 12 years serving in the Royal Navy, I was nervous about transitioning to civilian life, however my experience has been much easier than I expected, largely due to the invaluable support from GFSL.

With my RN career behind me I knew I had the discipline and dedication to thrive. Knowing that several members of the People Team were ex-Navy reassured me that I would have the guidance and assistance needed to effectively apply my skills in this new environment.

I am currently a Regional People Partner; I enjoy the responsibility that comes with the role and value the experience that I have gained.

Working closely with site teams not only allows me to contribute effectively to GFSL’s goals, but also evokes the camaraderie and teamwork that I cherished during my time in the armed forces. It’s heartening to see how my military background has equipped me with leadership skills and a strong work ethic that resonates well in the civilian workplace.

One of the most gratifying aspects of my current position has been the opportunity to recruit and support fellow veterans. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing first hand how their unique skills, experience and resilience are invaluable assets to our organisation. It’s incredibly rewarding to facilitate their transition into civilian careers and to see how their confidence and ability to learn quickly makes a positive impact.

While transitioning from military to civilian life posed initial challenges, I’ve found my current role to be not just a job but a fulfilling continuation of the service-oriented values I cultivated in the Royal Navy. The support from GFSL and the opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals have made this transition smoother and more rewarding than I could have imagined.
